For Teacher Appreciation Week next week, I am making the teachers these cute little Note-folios stuffed with six 3x3 monogram cards and six envelopes. These might actually have another name, but I don't know what it is so I made one up! I chose this project because I figure that teachers can always use little cards to send home notes to parents, etc.
I used the Defining alphabet to make the monograms (I cut apart my upper case and lower case letters and mounted them separately on the wood blocks). I had a sample of a larger note-folio that holds our notecards, but it was too big for the smaller 3x3 cards, so I modified the dimensions to better accomodate them. Keep reading for my tutorial for this small Note-folio (further down on this post). Some of the score lines were hard to make out on the cardstock, so I drew them in using PhotoShop Elements. Enjoy!

Embellishments: bashful blue grosgrain ribbon
Tools: 1-3/4" circle punch, scallop circle punch, horizontal slot punch
Note-Folio Tutorial
1) Start with a 9 x 6 inch piece of cardstock.
2) Score the cardstock at 4-1/2 inches on the longest side.
3) Score the cardstock at 1-1/2 inches on the shortest side.
4) Mark 1/2 inch at the bottom of the cardstock on each side of the center score line and cut a wedge (see photo A)
5) Apply sticky strip or other strong adhesive in the far right and left bottom corners (see photo A - adhesive strips are represented by gray rectangles)

6) Fold the bottom piece of cardstock up and secure the sticky strip. You should now have 2 "pockets" at the bottom of the note-folio (see Photo B).

7) Fold the note-folio in half like a book, so that the pockets are on the inside (see Photo C).

8) Now fold the note-folio so the pockets are on the outside. This will help you better see where to punch your ribbon guides.
9. Use your horizontal slit punch and punch through both layers, creating ribbon guides on both sides of the notefolio (see Photo D). The punch is aligned where the ribbon guide should be placed on the right side of the note-folio, an oval indicates the place on the left side of the note-folio where the other ribbon guide should be placed.

10) Open up the note-folio and slide your ribbon through the guides (as shown in Photo E). Be sure to leave enough ribbon on each end to tie a bow.

11) Decorate the front of the note-folio and fill the inside with 3x3 cards & envelopes.
